Coiled Holiday Tree Card

Coiled Holiday Tree Card by Erin Reed

This month Makin's Clay® challenged it's Design Team members to select a Pin from our Tutorials & Techniques Board or our Polymer Clay Inspiration Projects Board and create a project using Makin's Clay® based upon the chosen pin.  Our goal was not to have our designers simply copy of the projects, yet be inspired to perhaps try a new technique, or create a project style they might not normally have considered.

Hi all, Erin here today.  I just recently went to a wine and painting class with some friends and the painting we did there used swirls to create a tree, and I thought why can't that translate into a card?  Then I was browsing through the Makin's Clay® Tutorials & Techniques Pinterest board and I came across this fun technique using the Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® to make extrusions and then turn them into swirls, and it seemed like a match made in heaven!!

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/501588477234460867/

Materials:

Makin's Clay®
  • Vineyard Tones - Grape Leaf, Merlot
  • Earth Tones - Straw
Makin's®
  • Christmas Nature Push Mold
  • Clay Tools
Makin's Professional®

  • Ultimate Clay Extruder® - Disc #7, Disc #4
  • Cutting Mat
Card - Canvas Corp Brands
Ink - Brutus Monroe
Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive™

Instructions:
1) Start with the Straw clay.  Using the Christmas Decor push mold make a star for the top of the tree.  Set aside to dry.

2) Using the Ultimate Clay Extruder® with disk 7, make extrusions from the Grape Leaf green clay. Take the extrusions and turn them into swirls and place them into a triangle cut paper as a guide to make a tree shape.

3) Remove triangle shaped paper, and glue swirls into place on Canvas Corp burlap stitched card with Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive™.

4) Use the extruder and disk 4 with the Merlot clay  and cut
symmetrical size pieces and roll into little balls.  Glue decorative balls and star onto tree.  Ink edges of card with Brutus Monroe green ink.

Here is a full video tutorial on how I made this swirl clay Christmas tree card.

Now you have a fun cute card to give to a special person for Christmas.  You can also translate this idea into a decorative canvas or an ornament!!

Father's Day Cards by Steph Ackerman

Hi everyone, Steph Ackerman here today with two Father's Day cards using a variety of Makin's Clay® products.

Supplies:

Makin's Clay® - Earth Tones
Makin's® Roller and Cutters Set
Makin's Professional® Cutting Mat
Makin's® Texture Sheets - Set D, Set F
So Suzy Stamps
StencilGirl Stencil

Instructions:

Begin by combining 2 colors of the Earth Tones clay.  Continue working the clay until you achieve the color you are looking for.

Next, roll out the clay using the Makin's® Roller.  Once rolled to the desired thickness, cut into tag shapes with the Makin's® Cutter.
Use Texture Sheets from Set D to create different effects on the clay tags.   Cut small holes in the tops
 and add string.
Create a card with assorted layers and add the tags as embellishments, placing a So Suzy sentiment atop the larger tag.

My next card uses the Gears Texture Sheet from Set F.  Again, I rolled out the clay using the Makin's® Roller.  Once the clay was thin enough, I placed it on the Gears Texture Sheet and ran it through my die cut machine.  This really impressed the design into the clay.  Carefully peel the clay off the Texture Sheet.
Using a StencilGirl gear stencil, ink a card with gears to coordinate with the clay panel.  Add the clay panel to cardstock and adhere it to the card.  Add some gems in the gears and place a So Suzy sentiment on top.

Clay adds no weight to your creates and holds it's shape once dry. It's perfect for creating embellishments as well as backgrounds.

Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Card by Amanda Phillips

Glow in the Dark Pumpkin Card
Designed by Amanda Phillips

Good Morning!!!

Amanda here and I am delighted to share with you my newest and silliest creation to date for your Makin's Clay® pleasure :)

It is Halloween all over the place and when I saw Madeline Arendt's die cut inspiration leaves, I ran to the studio and started rolling out clay into sheets quicker than frankie rolled out skin :)

My fun supplies are as follows.

Makins Clay® - Glow in the Dark, Terra Cotta, Brown, Black, Olive, Grape Leaf
                        - Ultimate Clay Machine™
                        - Push Mold - Florals
Die cutting machine, pumpkin dies
Beacon® Tacky Glue
A couple of pieces of fun paper
A standard 6 1/2 x 5 greeting card blank
7" ribbon of choice
1/2" punch, 1/4" punch (both of these are for eye detail)
Chalk ink in pinks, browns, oranges and dauber for rosy cheeks shading.

Instructions:

I must remind you that your sheets of clay should 100% be dried before using in your large dies (foam backed) so that your pieces don't get gummed into the crevice vortex.

Start rolling half of your 120g package of Terra Cotta clay into your machine starting with your largest setting (#1) and slowly working the clay to the eventual #3 setting. Do this repeatedly using 1/2 package of the Glow in the Dark (so it's big enough) and a 1/4 package of the other colors..same process.   Let all rolled clay dry 24 hours.  Die cut shapes.

Use Floral push mold to create leaves from green clays.

Now I could have made some groovy curlies with my Ultimate Clay Extruder™ but the scissors were handy and they worked great. But as I said..if perfection is on the menu..The Ultimate Clay Extruder™ seriously cannot be beat. We'll get into my unnatural obsession with that in another post ;)

Use circle punches to punch pieces for eyes.
Add shading to pumpkins with chalk inks.

Assemble your pumpkin and mount to your card with Beacon® Tacky Glue.

I want to thank you for coming by today and seeing all the fun projects that the Design Team and myself love sharing with you!
