Hi everyone, Steph Ackerman here today with a flowering canvas.  This 6" x 6" canvas was fun to make and Makin's Clay® allowed me to create leaves and the perfect flower focal point which is really pretty, as well as lightweight and flexible.

Supplies:

Makin's Clay® - Red, White, Green
Makin's® Push Mold - Florals
Makin's® Ultimate Clay Machine™
Makin's® Clay Mixing Ruler
Makin's® Cutting Mat
Gina K Stamps
Spellbinders™, Sizzix® Dies
Die cutting machine of choice
The Crafter's Workshop Stencils
6 x 6" Canvas
Wax paper

Instructions:

I used the Clay Mixing Ruler™ to measure out red and white clay.  Then I mixed the two colors together to create pink clay. 

Next, I used the Ultimate Clay Machine™ to roll out the clay into a thin sheet (to setting #5, beginning with setting #1 and moving up one setting at a time).

I placed the clay sheet between wax paper and then die cut the flowers.  I find that using wax paper ensures that the clay cuts cleanly and does not stick to the die. (Great tip Steph!  We normally recommend  you let your clay sheet dry 24 hours before die cutting to ensure the clay does not stick in your dies - but this is a great option for die cutting sheets of clay if you want be able to shape them after cutting!)                              

I formed the flower by placing the layers over jars over night.  Then I put the layers together with a brad.  The layers are quite flexible and can be molded to create a perfect flower.

Roll green Makin's Clay® to setting #5, beginning with setting #1 and moving up one setting at a time.  Place between wax paper and die cut leaf sprays. 

I prepared the canvas background with stencils and embossing paste, stamped words around the canvas and added assorted colors with spray inks.  Once the canvas dried, the flower was added to one corner and die cut leaf sprays were added to encircle the flower.

A stamped phrase was added to the left of the flower and adhered with foam adhesives. 

Using the Florals Push Mold, several green leaves were created then added to the canvas overlapping the die cut leaf sprays/  

Finally, I inked around the canvas to add some additional dimension.

Materials:

Old Jalopy die 

Small Christmas tree die

Die cutting machine 

120g Makin's Clay® - Red, Brown, Grape Leaf

Makin's® Ultimate Clay Machine™ 

2 wheels, 2 brads

Assorted paper - I used a mixture of music note and notebook so I could see my written notes

black card chip paper "posterboard"

2x4 acetate - recycled packaging works great

small amount of string 

1 ring binder

pencil

1/8" hole punch

Beacon™ Tacky Glue

Instructions:

Roll red, brown and green Makin's Clay® in Ultimate Clay Machine™ beginning on setting #1 and progressing one setting at a time to setting #4.  Let dry 24 hours. 

Use die cutting machine to cut:

10 inside sheets of paper (light pattern)

2 black poster board

2 red Makin's Clay® sheets

1 Makin's Clay® green tree and trunk

Assemble your tree using Beacon™ Tacky Glue. 

Use Tacky Glue to attach all jalopy accent pieces to the two red jalopy pieces only. You will not needs these in your notes sections. 

Take the front red jalopy and glue acetate to the back.

Punch holes for tires and secure tires with brads.

Glue on black poster board to cover

Do the same with back (windows and tires optional here).

Place binder ring in holes of all and glue tree to top!

Also if you would like to shade your jalopy, be sure to use a permanent ink in a dauber as some of the other chalks tend to work themselves off.
