Clay Easter Egg Ornaments Kid Craft

Clay Easter Egg Ornaments - A Kid's Craft by Erin Reed

March is Youth Art Month, so lets make a kids clay craft!! My 2 younger kids love to color, and to color on something different, like clay and textured clay, and they thought that this idea was awesome!!!

Materials:

Makin's Clay® - White

Makin's Professional® Cutting Mat

Makin's®

Clay Tools
Texture Sheets set H and C

Oval or round clay clutters in desired size
Crayola "Extreme" Markers - Note: we recommend using non-water based markers.

Spray sealant

Instructions:

1) Roll out white Makin's Clay® with the clay roller to about 1/8" thick and cut out as many oval shapes as you can, if you do not have an oval cutter, then circles work too. Shape each shape into a egg looking shape with your hands. To create a hole to hang your eggs, either make a small hole in the top while the clay is still fresh, or let dry 24 hours then punch a hole with a heavy duty hole punch.

2) Add some texture to the eggs by placing a Makin's® texture sheet over the egg and gently pressing to transfer the texture to your egg. Adjust the shape with your hands as needed if adding the texture effects it. I used the all 4 from Set H and the Lace from Set C, but really any fun texture would look really cool!

Let the eggs dry until you can pick them up without them "drooping". Let the kids have fun coloring them, we used washable markers, which may smear, but paint would work too! Let the eggs dry for 24 hours. If using non-permanent markers, once the markers have dried on the clay it is recommended you seal the finished eggs with a spray sealant to help eliminate smearing of the markers. Add ribbons when the eggs are finished.

Dragonfly Garden

Dragonfly Garden by Erin Reed

I wanted to create something for St. Patrick's Day, and the idea was to create something like a Celtic knot, well that was much harder than I thought. I played round the with the original idea I had in mind, to take clay and use the Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® to make tubes and swirl them around into shapes, and it ended into looking like a vine garden, so I added some some flowers and a dragonfly and boom I have a mixed media dragonfly garden!

Materials:

Makin's Clay® - Merlot, Straw, Grape Leaf

Makin's Professional®

Ultimate Clay Extruder® - Discs #7, #8
Cutting Mat

Metal Embellishments - Momenta & Prima
Mica - Ranger & Imagination Crafts
Wood Block - Bottle Cap Inc
Paint - Tattered Angels
Glass
Gems
Glue - Beacon Adhesives

Instructions:

1) Use the Ultimate Clay Extruder® and Disc #7 to extrude Straw clay. Glue 3 glass beads to a wooden block with Beacon 3 and 1 Adhesive and start adding swirls around the beads gluing as you go.

2) Now use the extruder with disc #8 and extrude Merlot clay to make more clay strands. Attached these around the base making more swirls.

3) Repeat set 2 with Grape Leaf clay.

4) Spray down the clay with a little water to make it "sticky" and then paint on mica powder in similar colors - gold, purple, and green to make everything shimmer.

5) I found some pretty metal flowers, gems, and a metal dragonfly to finish the look. Glue them in place with Beacon 3 and 1 Adhesive.

Just because a project does not go the way you wish it to go does not mean you should give up on it, you may just create a dragonfly garden for yourself!

Steampunk Mini Hearts

Steampunk Mini Hearts by Erin Reed

I wanted to make some fun hearts steampunk style to give out in an embellishment swap. The ideas is to make 9 embellishments roughly about the same to send off to a single person, then she mails back 9 different ones back to me to use how wish. I thought how fun to make little Valentine hearts, but then post Valentine's Day that might seem a little over done, so how about generic hearts than can be used any time, and why not do a little steampunk in it all for fun.

I find that when I want to make my own DIY embellishments, clay is my go to choice as it can be any color, shape and texture I want it to be.

Materials:

Makin's Clay® - White 120g
Makin's®

Texture Sheet Set F - Sprockets
Clay Tools

Makin's Professional® Cutting Mat

Tattered Angels
Eyelet Outlet Pearls
Heart Cutter
Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive

Instructions:

Roll out white Makin's Clay® to about 1 cm depth and use the Sprockets texture sheet to create a gear pattern in the clay.

Cut out 12 hearts with a heart shaped cutter.

Roll the Merlot clay into little balls (36 total) with your palm and flatten onto the mat.

Paint the hearts with silver Tattered Angels paint to make them look metallic

Glue the little Merlot balls onto the top left corner in a cluster of 3 using Beacon 3-in1 Adhesive™. Also glue on 3 little black pearls to the bottom right.

Paint the little merlot balls with shimmer watercolor paint in red to make them sparkle.

Now you an use these little embellishments for planner clip toppers, on cards, scrapbook pages, in mini albums, really any craft project you need a little heart for!

Coiled Holiday Tree Card

This month Makin's Clay® challenged it's Design Team members to select a Pin from our Tutorials & Techniques Board or our Polymer Clay Inspiration Projects Board and create a project using Makin's Clay® based upon the chosen pin. Our goal was not to have our designers simply copy of the projects, yet be inspired to perhaps try a new technique, or create a project style they might not normally have considered.

Hi all, Erin here today. I just recently went to a wine and painting class with some friends and the painting we did there used swirls to create a tree, and I thought why can't that translate into a card? Then I was browsing through the Makin's Clay® Tutorials & Techniques Pinterest board and I came across this fun technique using the Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® to make extrusions and then turn them into swirls, and it seemed like a match made in heaven!!

Ink - Brutus Monroe

Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive™

Instructions:

1) Start with the Straw clay. Using the Christmas Decor push mold make a star for the top of the tree. Set aside to dry.

2) Using the Ultimate Clay Extruder® with disk 7, make extrusions from the Grape Leaf green clay. Take the extrusions and turn them into swirls and place them into a triangle cut paper as a guide to make a tree shape.

3) Remove triangle shaped paper, and glue swirls into place on Canvas Corp burlap stitched card with Beacon 3-in-1 Adhesive™.

4) Use the extruder and disk 4 with the Merlot clay and cut

symmetrical size pieces and roll into little balls. Glue decorative balls and star onto tree. Ink edges of card with Brutus Monroe green ink.

Now you have a fun cute card to give to a special person for Christmas. You can also translate this idea into a decorative canvas or an ornament!!

Holiday Votive Holders

I wanted to create these fun little votive candles to place on my mantle for Christmas, but I wanted them to be all sparkly and glittery as well.

Materials:

Makin's Clay® - Grape Leaf, Merlot

Makin's Professional®

Ultimate Clay Extruder®
Cutting Mat

Makin's®

Roller & Cutter Set
Christmas Clay Cutter Set

Beacon Adhesives 3-in-1 Adhesive™

Glass votives

Tattered Angles Glimmer Glam - Clear

Gold glitter

Instructions:

1) Use a glass votive and coat the inside with Tattered Angles Glimmer Glam in Clear. This will act as the adhesive, then take loose gold glitter and coat the inside of the votive. Shake of excess glitter.

2) Mix gold glitter with both the Merlot and Grape Leaf clay. Roll out the green clay to about 1/8" thick, and cut out 3 tree shapes from the Christmas clay cutter set.
