Vampire Bats Bracelet

There's still time to whip up this simple little vampire bat bracelet for Halloween!  This simple project would be fun for kids to make too.

Materials:

Makin's Clay® - Black
Makin's® Halloween Cutter Set - Bat
Makin's® Tool Set
Jump rings, head pins, closure
Jewelry pliers
DecoArt® Dazzling Metallics™ - Red
DecoArt® Metallic Lustre™ - Lightening Black
Cloth towel or fabric for texturing
Black chain

Instructions:

Open black clay and cut off enough from package for the project.  Place the remaining clay in a zipper bag with a damp paper towel or moist towelette for later use.

Roll clay to a little less than 1/4" thick.

I used a towel and gently pressed it into the clay sheet to add a bit of texture (real bats have fuzzy bodies after all...)

Use bat cutter to cut desired number of bats.

Fold one wing inward, and the second wing inward overlapping as shown to create closed wig bats. I made 5 of these, but later decided to use 3 in my bracelet.

Use clay tool to make holes in each wing for the open winged bats.

Insert head pin through center of each closed wing bat body.

Use head pin to add a tiny bit of the red metallic paint to make eyes on each bat.

Let dry 24 hours.

Use jewelry pliers to make loops in pins on either side of the hanging bats.  Trim excess wire.

Add jump rings to the flying bat wings.

Cut small sections of chain (how much will depend on how big you want your bracelet to be).  Working one at a time, put the chain through the large jump rings on the flying bats, fold each section in half, add a tiny jump ring to connect the ends, and then connect to one side of the upside down hanging bats.  Continue until all bats are connected.  Add closure.

I decided my bats needed a bit of highlighting, so I used my finger to apply a light touch of Metallic Lustre to the edges of each bat.

Glow in the Dark Rotten Molars Pendant

With it getting closer and closer to Halloween, I thought I would keep with the glow-in-the-dark theme. "Rotten Molars" is a project that will require manipulating the clay with your hands to get this scary look. This project is simple, and highly effective. Even the newest of the new to Makins Clay can perfect this technique.

SUPPLIES:

Makins Clay® Glow-in-the-Dark
Brown/Black/Red Paints
Diamond Flecto Varathane Gloss
2 Eye Screws
2 Jump Rings
Stretch Cord Necklace
Needle Tool
Big Ball Tool

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Grab a small chunk of your Glow-in-the-Dark clay and form it in a chunky triangle. Flip it over and flatten the surface.








2.Take scissors and cut the pointed end in two and form the roots of the tooth.










3. Use your needle tool to form the gum line.








4. Using a large ball tool add a nice indentation on the surface of the tooth. At this point, this is where all the detail comes in. You can use whatever tools you have in your stash to create the ridges, crevices, and cavities in your tooth. Let it dry completely.







5. Here is a close-up to show you where I added my paints. I made a wash and wiped it off because I only wanted it in the nooks and crannies. I also added a bit of red to the roots to give the freshly extracted look. To complete the tooth, I used the Flecto only where the gum line started and up to cover the tooth. I wanted to give the perception of enamel. Just a tip about using the paint...don't cover up too much of your tooth, it may hinder the glowing. However, by just adding a little bit, your tooth will look decayed when glowing and that is what I was going for here.

Halloween Clothespin Clips

I wanted to make some cute clay clips for Halloween to place on various projects such as cards, tags, scrapbook pages, treat bags, banners, really the uses are endless for these fun little clips.

Materials:

Makin's Clay® - 

• Black, White Clay, Neon Orange
• Clay tools
• Halloween Cutter Set

Makin's Professional® 

• Cutting Mat
• Professional Clay Tools 

Mini wooden clothespins 
Tattered Angels paints & mists 
Beacon™ Mixed-Media Glue

Procedure:

1) Roll out white, neon orange, and black clay and cut out cats, bats, pumpkins, and ghosts, a few of each for fun with the Halloween cutters.

2) Use the professional stylus tool to add in ridges to the pumpkin, shapes to the for eyes, wings, and mouth, for the cat face and ears, and the ghost eyes and mouth.

3) Roll our little balls or lines in white or black for the faces of the animals and ghosts for eyes and whiskers.  Use Beacon Mixed Media glue to hold the little parts in place.

 

4) Let dry over night to harden and set.

5) Use Tattered Angels paints and mists to add color to the pumpkin and pupils to the eyes.

6) Cut out shapes of the faces in black paper for the jack-o-lanters and glue.

7) Glue each little shape with Beacon Mixed Media Glue to a black Canvas Corp clothespin to make your clip.

I love Halloween - I always have!

I’m still delighted by glow in the dark things and I giggle every time the lights go out!

What can I say----- I’m easily amused!

Materials:

Makin'sClay® - Glow in the Dark (hehehehe - spooky laughter....)

And, I mixed Brown and a little White and touch of Yellow to get an old parchment color.

A small skull to mold - I’m sure you have one in your closet with the rest of your skeletons

Impressive Putty (and yes IT IS impressive)

Acrylic paints in black or a black dark green mix

Pan pastels in brown tones or chalk pastels

Beacon™Tacky Glue

Cookie cutter to fit molded object

Instructions: 

You can take a store bought tiny skull and mold it with one part RE-USABLE, yup I said

RE-USEABLE, Impressive Putty!  Just follow the VERY easy instructions on the putty.

My little trick is to use a cookie cutter when making the mold. As you can see, I removed the molded item after the putty cured and I sliced it to make it even easier to remove it and then  press your clay BACK into the cookie cutter as you mold your new item and let it cure and remove it from the cookie cutter exposing the slice to remove with ease.

Make your mold 

The molded clay shows great details.  This is where you can add your glow in the dark clay. I only did the eyes BUT the entire skull would be AWESOME! I highlighted the details with 

watered down acrylic paints. Apply the paint and wipe off excess quickly with a paper towel.

The cross bones are easy to sculpt just a ball on the end and indent them with the Sculpt tool. Age the cross bones with paint to match the skull.

Add shading to your skull & make your bones

Now for your aged label - I combined mostly white some brown and little bit of yellow clay to get this old parchment color. I rolled it out on the Ultimate Clay Machine™, starting at setting #1, then #2, and ending on #3.  I then tore the edges to get that rough look.

Make sure at this point your label and skull are the right size for your bottle of choice!  Use

alphabet stamps to stamp out the words of your choice while the clay is still fresh.

Let the clay cure a little a couple of hours before you age it.

Make your faux parchment label

After the label is dry to the touch you can then use the same watered down paint technique that you used on the skull on the parchment label.

For the dirty aged torn edges I used several shades of Pan Pastels applied with my fingers.

I added the parchment colored clay to make a big cork top and highlighted it with Pan Pastels to look like cork.

Mount your bones & skull

Make a stopper

Now let everything cure over night before attaching the label and then the skull with

Beacon’s Tacky Glue.
