Do you love black cats and Halloween? I sure do!  Let’s make a cute pin with Makin’s Clay®!

Materials:              

Makin’s Clay® Black 30G, Yellow 20G, Straw 20G 

Makin's Professional® 

• Ultimate Clay Machine®
• Cutting Mat

Makin's® 

• Clay Roller 
• Texture Sheet Set A - Brick (or brick pattern fondant roller)

Craft knife

Clay blade

2 ¼” round cutter

Black acrylic paint

DuraCoat Americana matte varnish

Pin back

Gorilla Superglue

Instructions:

Step 1:   

Roll the black clay on the thickest setting of your Ultimate Clay Machine® (2mm). Then cut a

Rectangle that is 2 ¼” long by 1 ½” wide. Curve the top if desired. Place remaining clay in a

Ziplock bag until needed. Roll the Yellow Clay on the 3^rd thickest setting (1mm) cut it into a

Rectangle to match the black. Use a large round cutter (2 ¼”) or your craft knife to round

one side of the Moon. You will trim the yellow to fit the brick. Roll the Straw Clay

on the 2^nd thickest setting (1 1/2mm) Add some cornstarch to the Fondant roller or Texture Sheet, and roll the brick texture into the clay. Cut this piece 1 ½” wide by 5/8” tall.

Step 2:   

Cut a piece off the bottom of the yellow moon, the same size as the brick piece. Place it on the Black background clay.

                 

Step 3:   

Add the brick piece to the bottom of the pin

The template can be found below. 

Step 4:   

Roll the remaining black clay on the thickest setting of the Ultimate Clay Machine. Place the

Drawing of the cat on the clay, and lightly trace the outline. Use a craft knife to cut the shape

of the head and body. Roll a snake of black clay to make the tail. I used two tiny ovals of yellow to make the eyes, and a small piece of Straw clay for the nose.

Step 5: 

Assemble the cat onto the brick wall. I used a small straw to create the mouth. Let the pin dry

For 24 hours, then paint the brick with black acrylic paint, and wipe it from the high parts

(antiquing) When the paint dries, seal the pin with a matte varnish. I used DuraCoat Americana.

Add the pin back with Gorilla Super glue, and you’re done!

A Creepy Glow

Design Team Member Patricia Krauchune shares another creepy fun project made with Makin's Clay®!  A tea light inside the glass jar casts an eerie glow through the eyes of the glow in the dark clay skulls, and thought the flames.  Her signature steampunk style comes through too with the tiny gears she used to make the crow's wings!

I love Halloween - I always have!

I’m still delighted by glow in the dark things and I giggle every time the lights go out!

What can I say----- I’m easily amused!

Materials:

Makin'sClay® - Glow in the Dark (hehehehe - spooky laughter....)

And, I mixed Brown and a little White and touch of Yellow to get an old parchment color.

A small skull to mold - I’m sure you have one in your closet with the rest of your skeletons

Impressive Putty (and yes IT IS impressive)

Acrylic paints in black or a black dark green mix

Pan pastels in brown tones or chalk pastels

Beacon™Tacky Glue

Cookie cutter to fit molded object

Instructions: 

You can take a store bought tiny skull and mold it with one part RE-USABLE, yup I said

RE-USEABLE, Impressive Putty!  Just follow the VERY easy instructions on the putty.

My little trick is to use a cookie cutter when making the mold. As you can see, I removed the molded item after the putty cured and I sliced it to make it even easier to remove it and then  press your clay BACK into the cookie cutter as you mold your new item and let it cure and remove it from the cookie cutter exposing the slice to remove with ease.

Make your mold 

The molded clay shows great details.  This is where you can add your glow in the dark clay. I only did the eyes BUT the entire skull would be AWESOME! I highlighted the details with 

watered down acrylic paints. Apply the paint and wipe off excess quickly with a paper towel.

The cross bones are easy to sculpt just a ball on the end and indent them with the Sculpt tool. Age the cross bones with paint to match the skull.

Add shading to your skull & make your bones

Now for your aged label - I combined mostly white some brown and little bit of yellow clay to get this old parchment color. I rolled it out on the Ultimate Clay Machine™, starting at setting #1, then #2, and ending on #3.  I then tore the edges to get that rough look.

Make sure at this point your label and skull are the right size for your bottle of choice!  Use

alphabet stamps to stamp out the words of your choice while the clay is still fresh.

Let the clay cure a little a couple of hours before you age it.

Make your faux parchment label

After the label is dry to the touch you can then use the same watered down paint technique that you used on the skull on the parchment label.

For the dirty aged torn edges I used several shades of Pan Pastels applied with my fingers.

I added the parchment colored clay to make a big cork top and highlighted it with Pan Pastels to look like cork.

Mount your bones & skull

Make a stopper

Now let everything cure over night before attaching the label and then the skull with

Beacon’s Tacky Glue.
