Honeycomb & Bee Pendant

HONEYCOMB & BEE PENDANT by Cindi McGee
Materials:

Makin’s Clay® 60g Persimmon, Black
Makin’s Professional®

  • Cutting Mat
  • Ultimate Clay Machine®
  • Ultimate Clay Extruder® - Slot Disc 11
Makin’s® Texture Sheet Set -  C -  Honeycomb
Clay blade
JudiKins™ Big Bee rubber stamp
Staz-on Jet Black permanent ink pad
Black cording
Beacon® Tacky Glue

Instructions:

Roll Persimmon clay to setting #1 on clay machine. Place texture sheet over clay and roll both through machine again on setting #1.

Place onto cutting mat. Determine approximate finished size of piece based upon the stamp you are using.

Use the guidelines on the mat to cut a square (mine was 6 cm x 6 cm). Then use the guideilnes to cut the corners to make a hexagon. Since my square was 6 cm, I cut in 2 cm on each side to make the slant cuts.

Ink stamp with permanent black ink. Carefully impress tamp into clay to transfer ink and pattern into clay.

Roll remaining clay to setting #1 on clay machine. Place texture sheet over clay and roll both through machine again on setting #1.

Use the first hexagon as a template to cut another.  Add tacky glue to the back and mount the two pieces together so the honeycomb is on both sides. Make a hole at the top fo cording. Use something to weigh down and ensure it dries flat - I used the stamp with the glue bottle - it was just heavy enough to ensure it remained flat yet not heavy enough to effect the texture. Let dry 24 hours.

Extrude black clay strand.  Add tacky glue to edge of honeycomb and then add black strand around outer edge. Trim to fit as needed.  Let dry 24 hours.

Add black cording.

Embossed Clay Cards

Hi everyone, Steph here wishing you a Happy New Year.   Today, I wanted to show you some cards I created using Makin's Clay, clay tools, embossing folders, and inks.

Supplies:

Makin's Clay - White, Red
Makin's ProfessionalⓇ Cutting Mat
Makin'sⓇ Clay Roller and Cutters Set
Makin'sⓇ Clay Ultimate Clay Machine
Beacon Adhesives - 3-in-1
Joy Clair and Penny Black stamps
Spellbinders Dies
Cuttlebug Embossing Folders
Imagine Inks
Ribbon
Cardstock

Did you know that you can emboss damp clay?  Clay can be easily embossed with an embossing folder while still damp and no special preparation of the embossing folder is necessary.  Embossed clay is perfect for creating backgrounds for cards as the clay adds very little weight to cards.

For my Valentine's Day card, I started by mixing red and white clay. I blended them creating pink clay.

Once blended, I rolled the clay through the Ultimate Clay Machine® starting at the highest setting.  I repeated the process, moving the dial down a level and rolling the clay through the clay machine until I had the thickness of clay I wanted.  I ended on the 7th setting and had this lovely thin piece of clay.

I placed the clay in an embossing folder and used the cutter to cut away the excess clay.

And this is the embossed panel.  All the details are clearly visible in the damp clay.  I allowed the clay to dry 24 hours before continuing.

Using Beacon Adhesives, I adhered the embossed clay panel to black cardstock.  Then I wrapped red twine down the left side.  The panel was added to the card with foam adhesives to create dimension.  The sentiment was stamped on a white oval and placed atop a black die cut.

For my next two cards, I rolled white clay through the clay machine starting at setting 1, and moving the dial as noted above.  I also ended on the 7th setting.

I spritzed the panel with Fireworks Summer Sky spray ink, then placed it in a winter embossing folder.

Again, I used the clay cutter to cut away the excess clay.

With this method, the spray ink becomes embedded in the crevices as the panel is embossed.  I allowed the clay to dry 24 hours before continuing.

The panel was matted with black cardstock and wrapped with ribbon.  Using foam adhesives, the panel was added to the card.  Winter Wonderland was stamped, die cut then added to the card.

Finally for my Christmas card, I repeated the above process using the left over white clay from the winter card.

I placed the clay in a Christmas embossing folder and used the clay cutter to cut away the excess clay.

After embossing the clay, the details are amazing.

Next, I used assorted VersaMagic Chalk Inks to ink over the embossed clay.  I allowed the clay to dry 24 hours before continuing.

I matted the clay panel with red and black cardstock using Beacon Adhesives.  2 different ribbons were added around the panels which were then adhered to the card.

Remember that clay adds no weight to your creations, so these cards can be easily mailed with negligible or no additional cost.

A Touch of Humor for Father's Day by Martha Lucia Gomez

Father's Day Inspiration

by Martha Lucia Gomez

Hi everyone, Martha Lucia here with you. Today I want to share a card that I made using only Makin's Clay®, except the base of the card that is made of card stock.  I made this thinking of the creative fathers that are always helping us in our house. I used two colors of clay and some other elements that helped me to obtain the result that I wanted. This is the list of materials that I used to make this.  - We think this would make a fun framed gift for a special dad too!  The layers of dimensional texture created by using Makin's Clay® make it perfectly suited for a home-decor piece!

Product list:
Instructions:

Take the entire amount content on a package of Light Adobe Brown Clay (60g) and divide this into two parts. Take each part and smooth it with your hands and roller to create an uniform layer. If you want you can past these layers through the Ultimate Clay Machine™. I began on setting #1 and moved up 1 setting at a time to number 5.

Take the bigger layer and put this inside of the one embossing folder. If you want you can pass this through the Big Shot machine using only one acrylic or you can only press with your hands to create the texture. Then open the folder and re-size with the cutter. This will be the main layer of your card.

Now take the smaller layer created on the first step and cut one square using the second square (small to big) of the Square Cutter Set. Put this square inside of other embossing folder with a different pattern and pass through the bigshot or press with your hands.

Take the two embossed pieces and ink the embossed parts using Distress Ink. In my sample I used two different colors, Walnut Stain for the background and Vintage Photo for the front piece. Let these pieces dry.

Now take the White Makin's Clay® and create the embellishments of your card. First you can make the hand tools. For this take small amounts of white clay and smooth it with your hands. If you want you can do it with the roller too. Take the Hand Tool Push Mold and press the clay into the each design starting in the center and working toward the edges. Remove the excess clay and either gently bend your mold to lift your tools free while the clay is fresh, or let the clay dry in the mold then remove.

Using the same White Makin's Clay®, create a thin layer with the roller and the Ultimate Clay Machine™ to stamp your sentiment.

When you have the thin layer, take Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and stamp your image. If you want you can cut the image using scissors or any punch. In my model I used scissors and I cut it before the clay is dry because for me it is easier.  Makin's Clay® can also be cut with scissors when dry.

Paint the parts of you image that you want using alcohol markers or any other type of paint and let it dry.  After all the parts are dried, assemble your card using an All Purpose Adhesive like Beacon™ Quick Grip.

To finalize add the stamped sentiment and give your card with all your love! I really like how easy it is to work with Makin's Clay® to create a wide variety of projects. For card makers like me, I find that the clay does not add much bulk and gives me the possibility to make different things and explore techniques that I love.

Stamped Heart Pendants by Martha Lucia Gomez

STAMPED HEART PENDANTS
By Martha Lucia Gomez

Hello dear friends, Martha Lucia here to share with you a great idea using Makin's Clay® to create pendants, or any other stamped element, that you can wear or use because the imagination doesn't have any limits. In today's project I decided to create pendants to be tied on leather cords and used as necklaces. But you can use the same elements as bookmarks, key chains or ending points in a zipper. This project was inspired by this stamped clay star pendant project from our  Makin's Clay® Tutorials & Techniques Pinterest Board.

Supplies:
Instructions:
1. Open the package of the White Makin's Clay® and smooth with your hands and roller. Create a thin layer of clay using the Ultimate Clay Machine™. I rolled mine to setting #3. With this layer you will create all your pendants and embellishments, if you want these thicker, just setting your machine to a lower number.  Let clay dry for 24 hours.

2. Using the framelits or die cuts, cut the the forms that you want to use for your pendants. I decided to create hearts but you can create any form.

3. Select the images that you want to stamp over the forms created with clay and stamp on it using StazOn. I stamped mine on both sides, using the same color on both faces.

4. Let the stamped hearts dry for a few hours before punching the hole to pass the leather cord. If you want you can ink the borders too to create a contrast. You will note this on the red hearts. Here are some photos with other details of the stamped designs.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and this inspiring you to create your own embellishments to use in your different creations and crafting projects. To see more about how I use Makin's Clay in my projects visit my blog here. See you soon!
