Faux Cupcake by Cindi McGee

FRIENDS ARE LIKE SPRINKLES
DECORATIVE FAUX CUPCAKE

Designed by Cindi McGee - Behind These Eyes™
www.CindiMcGeeBehindTheseEyes.blogspot.com

“Friends are like sprinkles on the cupcake of life” - This decorative “forever cupcake” would be a fun gift for a special friend.  Everyone loves cupcakes, and this would surely bring a smile to their face every time they see it!   I chose colors with a bit of an “art deco” feel for a vintage look.  I think these would also make fun party favors for a wedding or shower.  My boys came home when it was almost finished and said they though it looked real, and they wished it was because it looked really good…

Materials:

Makin’s Clay® - 120g Natural, 120g Earth Tones
                        - Cutting Mat
                        - Floral Push Mold
                        - Ultimate Clay Extruder™ - Disc #40
Smoothfoam™ Cupcake
DecoArt® Americana® Multi-Surface Satin™ - Champagne
JudiKins™ - Diamond Glaze™
                  - Gold Roxs™ Glass Glitter
Bamboo skewer, scissors, paintbrush, printer
Beacon™ 3-in-1 Adhesive

Instructions:

Paint Smoothfoam™ cupcake paper with Champagne paint.  Let dry.  Repeat with 2nd coat.  Let dry.

Open Natural Makin’s Clay® and make a “mountain” shape with about 1/3” of the package of clay, the same dimension as the top of the cupcake.   Use 3-in1 Adhesive to mount to top of cupcake.

Use Ultimate Clay Extruder™ and disc #40 to extrude clay and wrap around top of cupcake to mimic frosting.   Use fingers moistened with water to blend seams where extruded pieces of clay are joined.    Be sure to clean the extruder of all clay when finished.

Open Earth Tones Makin’s Clay®.  Use flower push mold to make 3 peach flowers and 7 olive leaves.    Place remaining clay in zip lock baggy with damp paper towel or moist towelette and seal to keep fresh for later use.

Use fingertip to apply a small amount of Champagne  paint over top of flowers and leaves, just to highlight raised areas and add subtle golden shading.

Moisten back of leaves and flowers and mount to extruded clay frosting. Begin with first flower and 3 leaves, off to one side, then continue over the top arranging as desired.

While clay is still fresh, insert bamboo skewer through top down into foam.  Remove.

Print 2 copies of graphic to mount to skewer with 3-in-1.
Apply light layer of Diamond Glaze over each printed image.  Apply very light touch of Champagne paint around edge.  Cut skewer to desired length for printed  image.

Paint skewer with Champagne paint and let dry.  Mount skewer between printed images.

Pour small amount of Diamond Glaze™ into a dish (amount shown is actually way more than you need!).  Use tip of skewer to apply small dots randomly over surface of cupcake.  While wet, apply gold Roxs™ for “sprinkles”.  Let dry.

Insert skewer with graphic into hole in cupcake.
