Dots & Flowers Bracelet

When I have a favorite piece of clothing, I love to make a piece of coordinating jewelry to wear with it and Makin’s Clay® is the perfect choice due to it’s versatility.  This bracelet was easy to make to match this top - it’s a simple and fun accent!  This would also be a great project for kids as the Clay Mixing Ruler™ makes it easy to make beads of uniform size every time! 

Materials:

Makin’s Clay® - Black 60g, Neon Multi-Pack 120g, White, 60g 

Makin’s Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine™

Instructions:

The Neon Pink was a bit too bright to match the pink dots in my top, so I mixed a bit of White with it to tone down the color it just a bit.    Store any clay not used in the project in a ziplock bag with a damp paper towel or a moist towelette to preserve freshness. 

Making beads of uniform size is easy if you use the Clay Mixing Ruler™.  Simply fill the well of your choice with the clay, use the tool to push it through and roll into a ball.  Then use a needled to push through and make the hole in your bead.  

For this project, I made my pink beads using Well E, and my white beads using Well D.  

The black flowers are actually “leftovers” from another project! Whenever I use clay cutters to cut a shape and I don’t need the shape I have cut (when the project calls for negative space instead of the cut piece), I save the pieces for later use. 

Roll Black clay in the Ultimate Clay Machine™ beginning on setting #1 and moving up one setting at a time to setting #4.

Apply texture with Dots texture sheet.    Cut flowers using smallest cutter from Flower clay cutter set.  

Let all the pieces dry for 24 hours.  

Measure and cut beading wire for bracelet.  Begin stringing beads in desired pattern, adding black flowers between them by laying wire over back of one, adding Beacon 527 Adhesive, then placing a second flower over the first to “sandwich” the wire between the two flowers.   

Add crimp on each end and add closure.

I am so excited to be apart of the Makin's Clay® 2016 Design Team. When it comes to creating with clay, oven-bake polymer may often be the choice of most. However, Makin's Clay® has some very fascinating characteristics of it's own that I find very interesting. For an air dry/no-bake clay to be as flexible as Makin's® blows my mind. When it has fully cured, it feels like an oven-bake polymer clay, without having to go through all the baking and rebaking. I hope you enjoy the project I have created for you!

Instructions:

LETS GET STARTED!

Using your Makin's® Clay Mixing Ruler™ and color chart, mix the Neon Yellow and Red Makin's Clay®.  The combination I chose creates a beautiful coral color that you see in my largest flower. For the hummingbird, I used White to form the body and the Concord Blue from the Vineyard Tones for the wings and blended them together using a wet finger. Lastly, using the Floral Push Mold and the Grape Leaf green from the Vineyard Tones, I formed my smallest and largest leaves. Don't forget that you need to create 2 holes in largest leaf, so that it will be jump ring ready.

Once all your moldable pieces are made. Grab your Black Makin's Clay® and roll it out to your desired thickness. Choose an embossing folder with a design you like and emboss or deboss your clay by laying the desired side of your folder on top the clay and add pressure with your Makin's® Clay Roller. Peel off gently to reveal your design.

​Next, take your CaBezel and form your bezel. And again, I used my Makin's® Clay Roller for an added, even pressure.

​Now trim away your excess clay using the Makin's® cutting tool. At this time, you may create your hole in your bezel 

Using your Viva Inka Gold color lightly add some color to the texture on your bezel and also to the texture on your flower and leaves.

​For the hummingbird, use a little bit of the Lumiere Halo Blue Gold paint to add some color to the wings and tail. Then, I also mixed up a very small amount of the Primary Elements Cool Water and Jasmine with my waterbrush to add a hint of color where ever I thought needed it.

​Almost done! Time for the Ice-Resin!! (If your scared of resin, I would suggest trying Diamond 

Glaze or Glossy Accents - both also work wonderfully with Makin's Clay®.) After mixing up your resin add a small amount of Primary Elements Cool Water. Gradually and slowly add to your bezel being careful not to overfill. Then, place your large flower, small leaf and hummingbird and let cure for at least 24 hours. After, your resin has cured, place 1 jump ring through the hole in your bezel, connect the bezel to your largest leaf, and add your last jump ring through the top of your leaf then connect to your chain.

I have loved the look of the little paperclips with the embellishments on the end, so when I got my box of goodies from Makin’s Clay®, I had to make a set, but what to make?!? - FLOWERS!!!  But not just any flowers, colorful ones that had a pretty shine and on some fun shaped clips!!

Instructions:

The first thing I did was to blend my clay using the Multi Neon pack of Makin’s Clay® colors and I played blending every shade using the Makin’s® Clay Mixing Ruler™ blending even amount of colors from well E. See the pictures and video below.  You can also use the mixing instructions included with the Clay Mixing Ruler™ to mix a variety of shades of Makin's Clay®.  

The next step was to make the shapes, so I used the Makin’s® Floral Push Mold and made various flowers with the clay colors I made above.  See pictures and video below.

Now for the last set of steps, turning these amazing air dry, no bake clay flowers (I let mine dry over night) into cute little clips, but first let paint them with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in various colors such as Icicle, Waterfall, Wicked, Plumeria, and Desert Sun to make them all shiny and pretty!! 

Next, I glued the various shapes of clips to the back using Beacon® 3-in-1 Adhesive.

I wanted make sure the clip was a bit more secure, so I colored a section of white Makin’s Clay® with a drop of yellow acrylic paint, rolled it out into a flat sheet with the Makin’s Professional® Clay Tools - Roller , and then cut out circles with the Makins® Clay Cutters - Round 3 pc.

I then glued the clay discs on to the back of the floral clips and then painted them with the yellow glaze to match the front side.  Let them dry over night to get nice and hard and you have some super cute floral paperclips.

I think my favorite are the yellow ones with the yellow glaze - they just really shine!!

The possibilities are endless for these fun clips, use them on a planner, card, mini book, tag, scrapbook page, and more!!  Now what am I going to use these fun little clips on - maybe a mini book!!

Burnt umber oil paint

Chain

Eye pin (1”)

Jump ring

Paint brush

Paper towel

Rubber gloves

Method:

Using the green clay and the Makin’s Clay® Fruit Mold, mold a small grape leaf.  A pumpkin leaf looks similar to a grape leaf.  Use the pointed stylus from the Makin’s Clay Mixing Ruler™ set to draw extra veins into the entire leaf.  Set aside so the extra texture drawn on the leaf will have time to set.

Measure the adobe brown clay in the E mixing well of the mixing 

ruler.

Form the clay into a stem for the pumpkin.  Draw lines along the stem using the pointed stylus.  Slightly bend the tip of the stem.  Set aside so the extra texture drawn on the stem will have time to set.

Measure the yellow clay in the H mixing well and the red clay in the E mixing well of the mixing   Mix the two colors together to make orange.

Roll the clay into a ball which now becomes a pumpkin.  Using the bigger ball stylus from the ruler set, push an indentation into the top of the pumpkin.

          

Drag the pointed stylus from the middle of the bottom of the pumpkin all the way to the top and over the indentation.  Move over and repeat until lines have been drawn all the way around the pumpkin dividing it into sections. 

Draw smaller lines and poke a few holes between the larger sections of the pumpkin.  This will add  

extra texture to the pumpkin and will show when the pumpkin is antiqued.

Apply Beacon™ Tacky Glue into the indentation on top of the pumpkin and then add the stem. 

Bend the stem of the eye pin back and forth with the pliers.  This will keep the eye pin from pulling out of the pumpkin after it cures.  Apply tacky glue to the stem of the pin.  Hold the eye pin with the pliers and insert by pushing it into the pumpkin stem.

    

With the Makin’s® Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder®, extrude green vines using Makin’s® Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® Disc #6.  The vines only need to be about 1” or so long.  Curl around the end of the stylus. Set aside.

Glue the leaf and a couple of the vine tendrils coming from under the leaf to the pumpkin.   Allow pumpkin to dry.

    

To antique the pumpkin, put on rubber gloves and paint the burnt umber oil paint over the entire pumpkin.  Immediately rub off with a paper towel.  Let dry.

Add a jump ring and a chain and enjoy wearing your Autumn Pumpkin Pendant necklace!
