Instructions:

Step 1:

If you are using the Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine®,roll the black clay out at setting 3.  I used playing cards as a guide. I placed 5 playing cards glued together on either side of my clay.  Then I rolled the Makin’s ® Black clay with my acrylic roller until the thickness of the clay matched the thickness of the playing cards.

Step 2:

Spray a texture sheet of your choice with a little water.  Place the sheet on the clay, then roll with the acrylic roller to impress the clay with texture.

Step 3:

Use the flower cutter to cut 7 blossoms from the textured clay.  Allow the blossoms to fully dry.

Step 4:

Once the blossoms are dry paint them with the gold paint.  Only one coat is needed.  Allow the paint to dry.

Step 5:

Paint the blossoms with purple flash, then allow to dry.

Step 6:

Brush lightly with yellow and green flash.

Step 7:

Apply UV resin.

Step 8:

Use a toothpick to pull the resin to the edge of the blossoms, then cure.

Step 9:

Cut a 2.5 inch circle.

Step 10:

Apply glue to blossom.

Step 11:

Place the first blossom in the center of the 2.5 inch circle.

Step 12:

Arrange and glue the rest of the blossoms around the center blossom.

Step 13:

Use a craft knife to trim the clay from the outside of the blossoms.

Step 14:

Glue cabochons to the center of each blossom.

Step 15:

Apply glue to the magnet.

Step 16:

Glue magnet to back of blossoms.

Makin’s Clay® Magnet Frames by Lisa Haney

Makin’s Clay® Magnet Frames
Designed by Lisa Haney

Supplies:

Makin’s Clay®

Recommended Makin’s® Tools

Other Materials:
Corn Starch
Die cut system
Future Floor Finish
Phillips head screw driver
Pictures or inspirational words
Sheet magnet or recycled magnets
Small circle cutter
Tape

Method

Roll a 1” ball of Blue Makin’s Clay® through the #1 setting of the Makin’s Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine®.  Continue stepping down each setting until the clay sheet is at the #6 setting.

If the clay sheet is larger than the Makin’s Clay® Diamond Tread Texture Sheet , use the cutter from the Makin’s® Roller & Cutter Set to trim it.

Rub Pearl Ex Powdered Pigments all over the sheet using several different colors.

Put the side of the clay sheet with the different colors of Pearl Ex against the back side of the   (If the
clay tends to stick to your clay machine, rub either the Pearl Ex powder or corn starch on the back of the sheet as a release agent.) Diamond Tread texture sheet.

Run both through the clay machine on a #2 setting.  If you are using a clay machine other than a Makin’s® and both sheets will not fit through the rollers, use the roller from the Roller and Cutter set to press the design into the clay.  Let the sheet dry.

Cut out all of the frames using the Sizzix® Originals™ Die, Frames, Rivet Combo  and your die cutting system.

Roll a small amount of blue clay on the #4 setting of the clay machine.  Cut out four circles for each frame.  Put a small amount of Beacon™ Tacky Glue on each corner of the frame and add a circle.

Press the Phillips head screwdriver into each circle to make a rivet.

Put silver Pearl Ex powder on each rivet.

Dip each frame into Future Floor Finish and let dry.

Cut frames out of the magnets using the die.  These are business card magnets that usually come in the mail.  They are perfect for this project!

Glue the magnets to the back of the frames.  Trim if necessary.

Cut the pictures to fit the frames and tape to the back of each magnet.  Stick to your refrigerator or something else metal.  Easy and unique picture frames.

All of the following frames were made the same way but with different texture sheets and using yellow clay.  The possibilities are endless!!
