"This Old Ticker" Heart Pendant

THIS OLE TICKER - Designed by Patricia Krauchune

For my February project, I decided to make a Steampunk piece, my favorite style. It tugs at my heart.

Supply List:
18g Brass Wire
Small piece of Copper Wire for Bale
DecoArt® Metallic Lustre™ in Silver Spark & Gold Rush
Small piece of chain
Watch Stem & Various Watch Parts
DecoArt® Dazzling Metallics® Shimmering Silver
2 Eye Pins
Small Knitting Needle
Artist's Loft™ Burnt Umber Oil Paint
2 Small Gears
Small Circle Punch
Makin's Clay® 60g Merlot
Small Screw
Gorilla® Super Glue
Beacon's™ Tacky Glue

Recommended Makin’s® Tools:
Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® with 4.5mm Clay Core® Adapter

Makin's Professional® Clay Tool with wire bristles tip
Makin's® Professional Cutting Mat

Instructions:

Form a heart shape from some Makin's Clay® in the Merlot color. Bend a small piece of copper wire into a "U" shape for the bale and insert into the top rear part of the heart. Using the Makin's Professional® tool with the wire bristle attachment, texture the heart.

Extrude some Merlot Clay with the Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Extruder® and the 4.5mm Clay Core® Adapter in place. Let dry overnight.

Cut some small pieces of the dried extruded clay to form 1 piece that is straight and then cut enough pieces to form 2 "T" shaped pieces. The "T" shaped pieces are made by cutting a small circle in the middle of a straight piece then inserting a small piece into the hole. You should now have three "arteries", one straight, and two "T" shapes.
I made a slurry of clay, to act as a joint glue, by mixing a little bottled water with a small piece of clay. Then I brushed the clay "glue" over the two "arteries" where the two pieces joined.

Using a small paper punch, punch out two circles from some dried clay, then ream a small hole in the middle of each circle.

Paint the circles with the DecoArt® Dazzling Metallics® Shimmering Silver. Attach an eye pin on each end of a small piece of chain then slip on the two small circles. Set aside.

Punch out a small piece of clay the size of the largest gear. Using the Beacon's™ Tacky Glue attach to the center of the heart. Then place the larger gear on top of the circle followed by the smaller gear. A small screw goes through the holes in the gears held in place with Gorilla® Super Glue.

At this point the "arteries" will be attached using Beacon's™ Tacky Glue. The arteries will sit flat on the heart if you slice a small angle on the bottom of each piece to conform to the heart shape.

This picture illustrates the size of the heart, it is just a little bigger than a quarter.

Wrap the 18g brass wire on a small knitting needle to form a spring.

Glue the spring onto the heart using the Gorilla® Super Glue. Now attach the chain assembly to the heart, front and back, by pushing the eye pins with a dab of the Super Glue to hold it in place.

To finish the heart, embellish with various watch parts of your choice. Dab on some DecoArt® Metallic Lustre™ in Silver Spark followed by Gold Rush. Let Dry. When dry, I brushed on some Artist's Loft™ Burnt Umber Oil Paint then rub it off with a paper towel. So there you have it...be still my heart.
