Steampunk Owl Pendant by Patricia Krauchune |
For my May Makin's Clay® project, I decided to give a hoot. In other words, I made a Steampunk owl. Follow along and I will show you how!
Supply List:
Makin's Clay® - Black
2 Large Gears, 1 Small Gear
Various Watch Parts
Copper Wire for Bale
Small Screw
Glass Head Pin
Large Threaded Bolt
Krazy® Glue
Createx™ Pearl Copper Paint
DecoArt® Paint in Dazzling Metallics - Worn Penny and Splendid Gold
Recommended Makin's® Tools:
Makin's Professional®
- Cutting Mat
- Clay Tools - Fine Point
Makin's®
- Texture Sheet - Scales
- Clay Roller
- Clay Cutters - Crinkle Cutter Set, Heart Shapes
Instructions:
On the "Scales" texture sheet, roll out the black clay to 1/4" thickness. Leaving the clay on the texture sheet, use the Crinkle heart shape cutter to form the background of the piece.

Make a bale from copper wire and use the Krazy® Glue to attach to the top of the heart. Next texture the surface of the heart using the threaded bolt to form a crosshatch pattern.
Start gluing the watch parts with Krazy® Glue to form an owl. I used the two larger gears for the eyes, a smaller gear on top of one of the larger gears and held them in place with a small screw. I used a glass head pin to hold the other eye parts in place. Continue to add watch parts until you are satisfied with the look of the owl. I used a fine point tool from the Professional Tool Kit to do some texturing on the owl's body. Let dry overnight before removing from the texture sheet.
|
Paint the back and edge of the heart with the Createx™ Pearl Copper. Next I painted the outer portion of the owl with DecoArt® Dazzling Metallics in Worn Penny and inside the owl's body in Splendid Gold.
