Method
Create a sheet of white clay by running it
through the Makin’s
Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine® on the
largest setting (#1).
Leave the sheet so it looks like a natural piece of
leather (don’t trim it).
Lay the floral texture sheet on top of the clay. Use the roller to gently press the design on the clay to give it more
texture when it is antiqued. Set aside.
Roll another sheet of white clay on the largest setting
of the clay machine. Fold the clay sheet
over for double thickness. Lay a cut
open sandwich bag (or a piece of plastic wrap) on top before cutting out the letters. The sandwich bag does two things. It rounds the edges of the letters and it
will keep the clay from sticking to the inside of the cutter. Cut out IT’S A GIRL, IT’S A BOY, WELCOME,
BABY, etc., whatever is appropriate.
Use Beacon Tacky Glue™ to mount the letters and shapes to the faux leather. Make holes in the top for lacing.
Paint burnt umber on the entire piece to antique it. Immediately use a paper towel to rub the
paint off. Go back around the edge of
the hanging with the burnt umber paint to make the edge a little darker.
Paint the letters and other elements with the appropriate
baby colors.
Lace the leather cording through the top and tie it in
the back. Your Faux Leather Birth
Announcement is ready to be hung! Hang
it on the door at the hospital, work, or on your own front door to let everyone
know that little baby has come. THEN, because
it looks so wonderful, use it as a cover for your little one’s baby book!
