This month Makin's Clay® challenged it's Design Team members to select a Pin from our Tutorials & Techniques Board or our Polymer Clay Inspiration Projects Board and create a project using Makin's Clay® based upon the chosen pin.  Our goal was not to have our designers simply copy of the projects, yet be inspired to perhaps try a new technique, or create a project style they might not normally have considered.   

This project you can finish as fast as Santa goes up the chimney!

In a Flash!  I saw this Santa hat ornament on the Makin's® Polymer Clay Inspiration Projects Board and decided to make an elf hat version!

Materials: 

Makin's Clay® - 2 oz. Green, 1 oz. Yellow 

20 gauge wire - 1-2" 

Tiny red feather 

Beacon Adhesives Tacky Glue™

Template 

Tools:

Makin's®

• Clay Roller
• 4 Piece Round Clay Cutter Set

Makin's Professional® 

• Tool Kit - large ball sculpting tool and flat cutter blade 
• Ultimate Clay Extruder® - Disc #7 

Wire cutters

Round nose pliers

3" round cookie cutter

Paper template

Scissors 

Instructions:

Roll the green clay to about 1/8" thickness. 

Use round clay cutter (about 3") to cut the green clay.

Trace outside of the cookie cutter onto paper, cut out with scissors.

Cut out 1/3 as shown.  Use this to cut out the clay. 

Make a cone to your desired size and overlap the edges. 

Smooth your seam with the ball tool. 

Extrude a thin strip of yellow clay using Disc #7. 

Wrap the yellow strip around the hat and tuck the tiny red feather inside. 

Let dry 24 hours. 

Cut some 20 gauge wire and make a loop for the inside of the hat, push through the top of the point of the hat.  

Loop it again at the top of the hat to hang from your tree. 

I made a whimsical lil’ ornament hanger to go with the playful hat!
