Treat Container by Lisa Haney

Treat Container
Designed by Lisa Haney

I recently received a Bow Genius™ which inspired me to create this Easter Treat Container.  Of course, the container can be used to hold other things instead of treats but since Easter is coming up soon, I wanted to make a container to hold Easter candy.  The bow looks like ribbon made from material but it is actually made from Makin’s Clay®!

Supplies:

Makin’s Clay®
Neon Pink
Neon Yellow

Recommended Makin’s® Tools

Other Materials:
5” tall and 12” round Can
Scissors
Tracing Wheel

Method

Roll out a strip of white clay on the #2 setting of the Makin’s Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine®.  Use the cutter from the Makin’s Clay® Roller & Cutter Set to cut out a strip a little larger than 5” x 12”.  Roll out the neon pink clay on the #7 setting of the clay machine.  Cut out dots with the small cutter from the Makin’s Clay® Round Cutter set.

Place the dots on the white strip to make it polka dotted.

Wrap the polka dotted strip around the can.  Roll the strip under at the bottom and over the top rim.

Roll out a 2” x 12” strip of neon yellow clay on the #7 setting of the clay machine.  Trim the edges with the cutter.

Roll a tracing wheel along the edges of the neon yellow clay to make it look like ribbon.
Wrap the yellow strip around the can.

Roll out a 1” x 18” strip of yellow clay.

Roll the tracing wheel along the edges.  Because the strip is so long, it will be easier to leave the edges rough for now and then trim them in the next step.

Trim the edges with scissors.  Cut off a 14” strip (for the bow) and a 2 ½” strip (to wrap around the center of the bow.)

Set the Bow Genius™ up with three pegs on each side.  Use the 14” strip and follow the directions to make a Basic Boutique Hair Bow but without the string.  Remove the bow from the needle.

Apply Beacon® Tacky Glue to the top of the ribbon and to 2 ½” strip.  Wrap the strip around the center of the bow gluing the other end down also.

Apply tacky glue to the back of the bow and press it on the can while the can is resting on its side so the bow won’t slide off.  Once the glue has dried, fill the can up with your favorite Easter candy.  When Easter is over, the can can be used for hair bows, paper clips, as a tool holder or pencil/pen holder.  Or, just make another one.  The possibilities are endless!
