Mason jars are HOT these days in home decor. I love the new Vintage colors Ball is offering and recently purchased some of these beautiful green jars. They seemed perfect for decorating, and for using as pretty country-style vases for spring & summer flowers. I decided to take the idea of using them for decorating to the next level and embellished the rim of the lid with custom colored Makin's Clay® sunflowers. The inner portion of the lid is still removable, so I can use the jar as a vase, but it looks just as pretty sitting on a shelf with other country treasures. - Cindi
Here's how to create your own Makin's Clay® embellished mason jars -
Materials:
Makin's Clay® - White and Vineyard Tones
Makin's Clay® Flower push mold
Green Ball® Mason Jar
Golden yellow craft paint
Beacon Adhesives Quick Dry Adhesive
Instructions:
Step 1: Remove approximately 1/3 of white clay from 120g package. Place remainder into zip-lock bag with damp paper towel. Add 3 large drops of golden yellow craft paint.
Step 2: Mix paint into clay to custom color clay.
Step 3: Roll small ball of brown clay from Vineyard Tones package and place into center of sunflower on floral push mold. Gently press to fill center of flower mold.
Step 4: Roll ball of clay about 1/2" across and flatten, gently push into sunflower mold over brown center. *Note - simply press in place and then remove from mold and trim around flower, or do as I prefer and use fingertips to push clay into the shape of the mold itself to eliminate the need for trimming after removal.
Continue making flowers until you have enough to go around rim of the jar you have selected, with flowers slightly overlapping each other for added depth.
Step 5: Use Quick Dry adhesive to mount flowers to outer rim of jar, allowing flowers to slightly overlap. Let dry approximately 24 hours per manufacturer instructions.
The lid can now be unscrewed for removal of entire lid or just center cap on lid.
