Birthday Balloons Hand Made Card

Birthday Balloons Hand Made Card by Iris Rodriguez
Hello Makers!
Got balloons? I do. So can you (I sound like children’s book, lol!). Seriously, this balloon birthday card is sure to make that special someone smile. It’s a fun and easy project.
Materials:

  • Makin's Clay®– White
  • Makin's Professional® Cutting Mat
  • Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine®
  • Imagine-VersaFine CLAIR ink-Nocturne
  • Imagine-Fireworks! Craft Spray-Danube Blue
  • Sentiment rubber stamp
  • Deco Art America Acrylic Paint-Desert Turquoise, True Red, Hauser Light Green, Primary Yellow
  • Sculpey Gloss Glaze (clay sealer)
  • Glue
Instructions:

Create a balloon template by drawing a balloon on a piece of cardboard, cut it out. You can also get a balloon image from the internet and trace it onto the cardboard.

Using Makin's Professional® Ultimate Clay Machine®, Roll out a sheet of White Makin’s Clay® to the second thickest setting.

Lay the balloon template over the clay and cutout the balloon with a precision knife.

Lay the balloons on spoon or other round object. The clay will take on the shape of the object. Allow the clay balloons to cure in this position for 24 hours.

While the clay is curing, work on the card. Paint a cardstock or watercolor paper blue with acrylic paint or sprays. Here I used a blue pigment spray. First spray water onto the paper, then spray on the color. Dab a paper towel to remove some of the color; the white that peeks through, simulates clouds.

Once the clay cures, paint the balloons.  Paint a very a white streak, this simulates light hitting the balloon. Seal the balloons with gloss clay sealer. Make it very glossy; because real balloons are happy and shiny.

Tie a piece of string on the balloons. Because the balloons are curved, you will need dimensional backing to glue them to the card. Adhere foam or a piece of corrugated cardboard.

Adhere the balloons onto the card and stamp a sentiment.
