Liquified Clay Sunflower Painting by Cindi Bisson

Liquified Clay Sunflower Painting
Designed by Cindi Bisson

Makin's Clay® is an incredible versatile medium - it has a tremendously broad range of applications. One of my favorite techniques I've been creating with this year has been liquifying the clay and using it as paint.   The result is a dimensional, textured, layered effect, much like encaustic wax.  You can find the instructions for liquifying Makin's Clay® here on our blog.

This 12 x 12" canvas featuring dimensional sunflowers is one of my favorites.   The flower petals were painted, blending shades of clay only
 - there is no actual paint on this piece at all.  The dimensional petals were created by cutting petals from a repurposed bedsheet, then painting the individual petals with liquified clay both top and bottom before mounting to the flower using Beacon® Tacky Glue.  Once the glue was dry, the center of the flower was added.  Shades of clay were layered on the leaves, and center of the flowers using various types of brushes to add texture.

The colors of Makin's Clay® I used were Green, Blue, Olive, Black, Brown, Adobe Brown, Yellow, Persimmon and Straw.
Be sure to wash your brushes well after painting with liquified Makin's Clay® before the clay dries.
