Grapevine Vase by Lisa Haney

Grapevine Vase
Designed by Lisa Haney

I wanted to cover my vase with clay that would make the vase look like it was made out of stone.  With a little black paint and pepper, yes pepper, I was able to achieve just that!

Supplies:

Makin’s Clay®
30g White Clay
Vineyard Tones – Plum Wine, Grape Leaf

Recommended Makin’s® Tools
Makin’s® Push Mold – Fruits

Other Materials:
½ Teaspoon
Black Acrylic Paint
Inka Gold Metallic Rub - Gold
Pepper
Small Vase

Method

Mix five drops of black acrylic paint with the 30g White Makin’s Clay® to create a stone color.

Mix ½ teaspoon of pepper into the clay to make the stone look like it has tiny black flecks.

Roll the clay through the clay machine on a #4 (I used Makin’s® Professional™ Ultimate Clay Machine™).

Wrap the sheet around the vase cutting away any excess.
Using the purple clay, mold the grapes and a partial section of the grapes.
Using the green clay, mold one large grape leaf, three small grape leaves, and two thin ropes of clay.  The ropes will be used for the grapevines.

Arrange the large leaf and two smaller leaves and the large grapes on the front of the vase.

Add the vines so that they curl to the back of the vase.  Add
the remaining small leaf and partial section of the grapes to the back.

Add the Inka Gold Metallic Rub to the grapes, leaves, and vines.  Let the entire piece dry 24 hours.
