Method

Wings

Use the adobe brown clay to make a sheet on the #5 setting of the Makin’s Professional® Ultimate
Clay Machine®. Lay the clay on the back side of the Makin’s Clay® Scale Texture Sheet (yes, scales are for fish but this texture sheet is also great for feathers!) Press the clay into the scale design, pull off, and cut out two circles using the ½” round cutter. Set aside to let the clay dry so the pattern does not get pressed out when the wings are applied to the owl.

Breast

Use the light adobe clay to make a sheet on the #5 setting machine. Turn the scale texture sheet sideways (so the feathers of the owl will run up and down) and lay the clay on the back side of the texture sheet. Press the clay into the scale design, pull off, and cut out an owl with the owl cutter from the Makin’s® Halloween Cutter Set. Turn the cutter upside down and cut off the head of the owl. You will only need the breast part so it to let the clay dry so the pattern does not get pressed out when the breast is applied to the owl.

Body

Use the adobe brown clay to make a sheet on the #1 setting of the clay machine. Fold the sheet over to double the thickness. Lay a single layer of a plastic bag over the sheet. Place the owl cutter on top of the bag and press down to cut out an owl body. The plastic bag will give the owl rounded edges. Remove from bag.

Eye Pin

Using pliers, bend the end of the eye pin back and forth so that when the clay dries around it, it will not pull out. Add Beacon™ Tacky Glue to along the stem and insert it into the head of the owl.

Eyes

Use the straw clay to make a sheet on the #5 setting of the clay machine. Cut out two circles using the ¼” round cutter. Use the adobe brown clay to make a sheet on the #5 setting of the clay machine. Cut out two circles using the 3/8” round cutter.

Place the smaller circles on top of the bigger circles and place on the owl.

Using the stencil tip, go around the crystals gentle pressing lines into the clay making texture around the
eyes.

Glue crystals in the center of the eyes.

Rest of assembly

Using Stencil Tip from the Makin’s Professional ® Tools, mark the ears and head to give the effect of feathers.

Glue the breast piece onto the owl.

Glue the wings one each side of the breast. Make sure the feathers are pointing to the sides.

Beak

Use the persimmon clay to make a sheet on the #5 setting of the clay machine. Use the 3/8” round cutter to cut out two circles. Roll the two circles together and then form them into a triangle shaped beak. Glue the beak between the bottom of the eyes. Use the stencil tool to poke two nostril holes at the top of the beak.

Feet

Use the persimmon clay to make a sheet on the #1 setting of the clay machine. Cut out two circles using the 1/4” round cutter. Shape each circle into a ball then flatten. Use the scissors to cut three toes into the flattened ball. Form each toe into a bird claw. Glue both feet to the bottom of the owl.

Branch

Use the adobe brown clay and straw clay to make sheets on the #1 setting of the clay machine. Cut one circle using the ½” round cutter from each. Mix the two circles together and shape into a branch. Glue to the bottom of the owl’s feet.

Leaves

Use the olive clay to make a sheet on the #5 setting of the clay machine.
Cut out three teardrops using the 3/8” teardrop cutter. Using the stencil tip, add veins to the leaves, arrange together, and glue to the branch.

Let entire piece dry, add to a necklace and you have a really cute Owl Pendant!
